Ceremony

As we figure out more details about the ceremony, this page will likely change, but the short version:  this is the 411 on the ceremony.

We've posted before that it will be between these two trees:

And, that I'll be making a "fabric wall" to hang between the two trees as a backdrop of sorts:

And, that we hope to have chairs set up with lovely flowers or candles hanging....something similar to this:

But, then we get into the actual ceremony part.  Well, that part is trickier....as in, it just takes more effort than what we've put in so far.  Meghan is our officiant and we've asked her to put some thought into what she would want to say.  We've also asked our siblings to select a reading, poem, excerpt from book, or whatever that they feel is appropriate to the day and summarizes our relationship.  (ps - Jennifer, if Crissy hasn't officially asked - would you please pick a reading, poem, excerpt from a book, or whatever to be read at our wedding?  Please and thank you.)  We found this ceremony script from another couple recently that has some parts we really like:  http://lovingmoreadventurously.wordpress.com/the-ceremony/  And, we've also discussed a wine ceremony.  Don't know what a wine ceremony is?  That's okay - neither did we until this whole planning thing.  But, it keeps popping up at various points.  Plus, I recently read another twist on it that seems so "us" and would make our guests happy....so wine ceremony it might be!

Here are the basics of the wine ceremony (though you can find more details here):
  • Crissy and I would each write a love letter to the other and place in a sealed envelope
  • During our ceremony, we would place the love letters and a bottle of wine in a wooden box and then hammer nails into the box to seal it
  • The purpose is that we would open the box on our 5 year anniversary to celebrate our love and those 5 years.  (I also like the idea that suggests that this gets done every 5 years - so we would repeat)
  • However, it also serves the purpose that if things are ever truly problematic, we could open the box to serve as a reminder of what our love started as and how much we do love each other.
The other thing that sounds like a great idea?  Having a glass of wine with the wine ceremony.  I recently read a bride who had a glass of wine for each guest and then during that part of the ceremony, everyone shared in a glass of wine.  Kind of like communion, but without the religion.  Pretty great, huh?  I mean, who wouldn't want to drink a glass of wine during a wedding?!?!  Yes, please!!
