For real?!?!

It seems only appropriate that we each write about our own "proposals."  I don't know how other same sex couples do things, with regard to rings and proposals and what-not....but I do know that Crissy and I both are pretty girly....which means we both wanted rings and our own proposals.  So, we picked out our own rings and then each took the time to figure out the "when" and "how" to "propose" to the other.  I put propose in quotation marks because we weren't exactly traditional in that whole "Will you Marry Me?" thing - but they were proposals nonetheless.

My version of Crissy's proposal to me is probably way less detailed than hers would be of me to her - and probably even less detailed than her description of my own proposal.  Because, what I remember is asking "For real?!?!" about a hundred times.  Ok, that might be an exaggeration - but I did ask it several times in a row.  So, here's the story of how Crissy proposed to me:

On Friday, August 13, 2010, my dear brother called me on my way home to work to ask if I wanted free tickets to see the Black Eyed Peas in St. Louis for the following night.  My response was a resounding "hell yes!!!"  Actually, I didn't say that at all (I don't think), but I did tell him that I'd make sure Crissy was good with that and call him back once I was home.  See, Crissy had made a commitment to go to a family reunion on Saturday the 14th.  She had agreed a long time ago that if I managed to win free tickets to BEP, then we could go and she would skip the reunion.  So, when my brother called - I figured this was just the same, right?  Well, because Crissy loves me lots - and possibly because it was like 106 degrees in the shade that weekend - she skipped the reunion and we headed to StL on Saturday.  Mind you, she kept repeating "tonight's going to be a good night" throughout the day, but she's kind of weird - so I just thought she was quoting the song for fun.

So, we get to the concert (which featured TPain opening - hooray!) and enjoy ourselves completely.  It was tons of fun - I mean, how could it not be when it includes Black Eyed Peas?!?!  Plus, it was free - that makes it pretty darn good, too.

Let's fast forward to "I Gotta Feeling."  So, the BEP's are doing their thing and I'm rocking out, dancing in my limited seating area....and Crissy leans over to tell me how much she loves me.  Well, I figure she's just being cheesy and overly mushy - so I tell her I love her, too - but then proceed rocking out.  So, she pulled me in again and again told me how much she loves me.  She then asked if I would be her "forever lady."  At this point, I was pretty sure she must be full of it.  I never in a million years thought she would give me the ring that night - sure, if she had bought tickets, I would have assumed so.  But, we got tickets for free - and I knew there was no way she could have actually picked up the ring from the jeweler (she wasn't sneaky enough to keep the fact she bought it from me).  So, after she asked....I just kept repeating "For real? Like for real, for real?!?!"  I then asked her to show me the ring.  Yes, I am that doubty.  Well, once I saw the ring was really in the box - I certainly said yes, admired me new ring, and continued rocking out to the BEP's.

Following the show, I had a million questions for Crissy - like how she managed to get the ring without having to "run errands" or something.  So, thanks to my beloved bff, Kristy, who picked up the ring for Crissy and snuck it into our house that Saturday while Crissy and I were getting ready to leave for StL - I got my ring.  :)  Here's a pic, just in case you haven't seen it - or you want to admire it as much as I do.

A bit of the "old us"

I'm going to blog? I'm going to blog!

Ok, so I don't blog.  I never have and it still seems a little weird that I am now.  But, here I am.  You may be wondering what the real purpose of this blog is.  Is it to gross you out with how much Crissy and I really love each other?  Is it so you can stalk us in a socially acceptable way?  Neither of these are exactly true....though they may happen.  Here's the purpose:  So we can share our excitedness about our engagement, our upcoming ceremony & party....and so you can feel connected.  However, at this point - you're probably wondering "why did they start this in August and I'm (we're) just now finding out about it?!?"  Well, we wanted to announce it to everyone when we had/have our engagement parties/send save-the-dates.  So, we recognize that you have some catching up to do....

I have my favorite blogs of close friends (or a former step-brother who's hilarious).  Here's what I love about them:  I get to still feel connected even when they don't live close or we don't talk every day.  I think blogs are a lovely thing....I just never expected to be doing the blogging.  But, again - here I am.

Perhaps I'm just too excited to keep all of my ideas to myself, but don't be surprised when this blog gets taken over by new ideas I'm having about something we "have to have" at our ceremony.  Crissy and I are pretty excited about this new journey that we're starting on....

Serendipity

Serendipity: a fortunate accident

If you know me (Trish) at all, then you know that Serendipity is my all time favorite movie.  As in, I could watch it a million times and never get sick of it.  In fact, I probably have (ok, well that might be a slight exaggeration).  I could spend a whole post writing about my favorite parts of the movie, but all in all, it boils down to the way the title of the movie is defined by the main character - a fortunate accident.

This all leads me to this blog and to Crissy.  You may have thrown up a little in your mouth when you read the blog title....we did, too.  But, it makes sense.  We are serendipitous soulmates.  We met by chance; it was a fortunate accident, if you will....and we have become soulmates.  I, for one, can't imagine someone better suited for me than Crissy.  If you'd like to know the full cheesy (aka barfy) story of the serendipitous-ness of "us," then please keep reading.  If not, well then, go have a glass of wine.  :)

I saw her in 2005 at the B.  Mind you, I may believe in fate, soulmates, destiny, etc....but I am not really a believer in love at first sight.  But, she was there - and forever became known as the "pink shirt girl."  Prior to this, I had never once looked at a girl and thought that I wished I could meet her or talk to her....it just wasn't me.  But, there she was - the pink shirt girl.  And, she seemed to know my bff, Kristy.  So, long story short - Kristy arranged a "meeting" at her house several months later.  Crissy and I weren't friends at first and only occasionally ran into each other - until she needed a ride home from the Coffeehouse and Kristy asked if I could do it, instead of her.  So, I pick Crissy up - only to find out that she lives behind me.  Coincidence? Maybe.  Destiny? Perhaps. From that point, we slowly began talking more and more....which eventually turned into our relationship.  Don't get me wrong - we've had our ups and downs, but in the end - it's all come back to the other.  And, now that we're more than four years past the first start of our relationship - I still believe that very "fortunate accident" of seeing her at the B, her being a friend of Kristy's, etc....is one of the best things that's happened to me.

Okay, this has been far too cheesy for possibly even me....but, welcome to the cheesy-ness of "us."

p.s. the definition above is not a Webster's definition, but instead is the one offered to John Cusack by Kate Beckinsale in Serendipity when she's describing to him why Serendipity (the ice cream shop) is one of her favorite places.
